Starbucks-inspired Protein Shakes

Okay, some of us don't like the taste of protein shakes.  And many of us love, love, LOVE Starbucks Latte's.  So I tried some combinations to make my own version of a Starbucks Latte from healthy PnP approved products.

They aren't 100% the same, but they are close enough that they satisfy the urge without the guilt.  And are easier on the wallet!

This is probably the easiest of all - you can use any coffee and any flavoring!

PnP Flavored Latte

  • Regular Coffee (one cup brewed)
  • Skim or 1% milk (adjust amount to taste up to one cup)
  • Vanilla Whey Protein (one scoop)
  • 1 Tsp Almond Extract
  • Splenda (1 tsp or to taste)

Mix first 5 ingredients in a blender until foamy.  If making an iced version, include 2 ice cubes in the blender.  Variations include different extracts, like vanilla, rum, brandy, walnut, etc. You can also mix in Chocolate instead of Vanilla Protein to vary the flavors.

Flavored Coffee Lattes

The key ingredient for these is flavored coffee. I get mine from Green Mountain Coffee (I have a Keurig One Cup coffee maker).  I have checked online and there are other places you can get these flavors as well.

PnP Pumpkin Spice Latte

  • Pumpkin Spice Coffee (one cup brewed)
  • Skim or 1% milk (adjust amount to taste up to one cup)
  • Vanilla Whey Protein (one scoop)
  • 1/2 Tsp Vanilla
  • Splenda (1 tsp or to taste)
  • Cinnamon to sprinkle on top

Mix first 5 ingredients in a blender until foamy.  If making an iced version, include 2 ice cubes in the blender.  Sprinkle cinnamon on top .

PnP Eggnog Latte

  • Eggnog Coffee (one cup brewed)
  • Skim or 1% milk (adjust amount to taste up to one cup)
  • Vanilla Whey Protein (one scoop)
  • 1/2 Tsp Vanilla
  • Splenda (1 tsp or to taste)
  • Nutmeg to sprinkle on top

Mix first 5 ingredients in a blender until foamy.  If making an iced version, include 2 ice cubes in the blender.  Sprinkle nutmeg on top.

The next one is easier in some ways because Hazelnut coffee is easy to find:

PnP Hazelnut Latte

  • Hazelnut (or other type of Nut) Coffee (one cup brewed)
  • Skim or 1% milk (adjust amount to taste up to one cup)
  • Vanilla Whey Protein (one scoop)
  • 1/2 Tsp Vanilla
  • Splenda (1 tsp or to taste)

Mix first 5 ingredients in a blender until foamy.  If making an iced version, include 2 ice cubes in the blender.  Sprinkle nutmeg on top.  Variation - mix in Chocolate instead of Vanilla Protein

These look good.  I'll put them in the recipe blog area too.

I thought I'd share how I make mine.  I'm usually in a hurry so I take 1 cup cold Soy Slender soy milk(choc, vanilla, or cappuccino flavored), 1 scoop protein powder (choc or vanilla) and 1 tsp instant coffee.  Blend.  Add ice (4 small cubes) and splenda to taste.  Blend again and enjoy.
