I am back from my trip to the beach. It was a lot of fun and RELAXING. We went to Panama City Beach with my inlaws which is always nice because if we want to go out at night they love spending time with Logan in the condo relaxing.
We don’t eat out too much on beach trips. Most of you think it’s because I must be anal about my food choices, but no. Logan gets overwhelmed at busy restaurants. Our first trip a couple of years ago it was a DISASTER waiting for a table and food each night. Next, my MIL has several food intolerances and Logan can only eat so much “junk” before he’s having issues. So, we always get a condo with a good kitchen and we make most of our own meals.
Let me tell you, though, we ate great! Each day we were cooking all kinds nice meals. Along with the Reset, I realized just how much I am enjoying cooking really good and healthy food. There’s a lot of satisfaction to watching Logan clean his plate full of roasted of vegetables, fruits, and more. And I will say, because we ate at the table together without crowds and servers we were able to just RELAX and TALK. We tend to get so busy as a family and don’t always all sit together for meals. I decided on this trip that crap stops now. We are not only going to eat together but we will use the good dishes and make our dinners special again.
But, we also had quite a bit of fun, too. You know the Crabbie’s always have fun! I had wine every night. One night Chris and I went to a local seafood joint and I had the BEST fried oysters and sweet potato fries. When I thrown down I’m going to tell you that fried oysters (or raw) are near the top of my list! The last night I WAS going to have the same thing but the restaurant closed EARLY! I was so mad. Only thing open was frozen yogurt and a Subway. I haven’t had bread in months but I didn’t have a problem tossing back a footlong turkey AFTER my frozen yogurt with candy on top.
Logan got his share of fun food, too. He had a DIVINE caramel dipped rice crispy cake one night, a little peanut butter fudge, some pizza, and sweet potato fries just like Momma! Daddy pretty much had beer. LOL.
I know post-Reset you are supposed to introduce stuff slowly. I sort of failed miserably with that one but it was my choice and my vacation. My Reset I got rid of the “stuff” in my regular diet I wanted out like caffeine, splenda, and such. I just don’t have tons of food digestive issues, maybe some mental ones, but I eat great.
I was discussing this over the trip with my MIL. Back when I was a teenager and early 20’s, I suffered from digestive issues BAD. At 14 I had ulcers and IBS. In my 20’s they both came back several times. I had a terrible round of acne that required meds, shots, and creams. Even after I had Logan before I got my butt in gear, I was tired, sore, depressed, and still suffering from IBS. My weight was not my problem. My LIFESTYLE was the true problem and my weight was a symptom of what I did to myself. I’ve said this several times lately to people but when you live a healthy lifestyle it just shines on your outside.
One of the fun things I did on this trip is my workouts. Each day I was able to workout with Chris except for the day I worked out with my FIL. Those are fun workouts that I don’t mind doing on a vacation. Some trips I take time off but rarely at the beach. The fresh air and relaxation just makes working out fun…especially because I get to work out with Chris!
Now for the final part: travel bloat! I have it! Of course I do and it’s OK with me. I didn’t weigh today but if I had to do an educated guess I should be up a good five pounds??? I’ve gained over seven before but this trip we freaking walked everywhere because we didn’t rent a car. I weight gain mention because I feel like so many of you get caught up in the normal “swings” of your weight. I don’t care if you are losing weight or maintaining weight, your personal value and success in being healthy has ZERO to do with what you weigh much less when you get back from vacation!
If I could ever give any of you one solid piece of advice that has helped me through the years it is to think of your food and movement your lifestyle. That simply means what you do “automatically”. Do you reach for fruit when you want a snack? Do you include vegetables at your meals because they are GOOD for you and not a path to drop a few pounds? Do you plan rest, proper sleep, water, and movement YOU like?
I simply think those of you who nail down the idea of living a healthy LIFESTYLE will have no problems feeling the way you want with a body you like. A healthy lifestyle means letting your hair down sometimes but getting back to business when you get home. Speaking of, its time for my eggs and fruit for breakfast.
