Losing weight was one of the hardest things I’ve done in my life (and I’ve overcome depression, built my own business, and been heart-fucking-broken several times).

I couldn’t have done it without knowing how to keep my ass motivated.

And to be motivated, I had to do things that made sense TO ME.

When losing weight makes sense to you…guess what?

You LOSE WEIGHT FASTER.

I needed to make weightloss so easy that it was harder to give up. To quit. To use my excuses to eat.

You don’t need tricks, low-carb days, or fasting. You need to be CONSISTENTLY doing easy shit and doing that easy shit over and over again. BAM. Weightloss.

In this podcast, I help you figure out how to make your weightloss a whole lot easier. And we’ll do that by learning how you best stay motivated and learn.

You’ll hear me talk about…

  1. The three types of learners and why this MATTERS in weightloss. Knowing how you best learn keeps you from getting stuck on diets that leave you bored as fuck or confused as to what to do.
  2. How to best use the FREE tools I give you week after week in the podcast and on my social feeds.
  3. How I’ve set up the No BS Weightloss Program to include a lot of ways to lose weight (which saves you TIME and keeps you motivated).

Corinne:

Hi, I’m Corinne. After a lifetime of obesity, being bullied for being the fattest kid in the class and losing and gaining weight like it was my job, I finally got my together and I lost 100 pounds. Each week I’ll teach you no weight loss advice you can use to overcome your battle with weight. I keep it simple.

Corinne:

You’ll learn how to quit eating and thinking like an asshole. You stop that, and weight loss becomes easy. My goal is to help you lose weight the way you want to live your life. If you are ready to figure out weight loss, then let’s go. Hello, everybody. Welcome back.

Corinne:

So this week, Kathy and I are going to talk about something that I think is going to be good for you to understand so that as you are deciding whether you’re going to work with me or you are going to join a different weight loss program, you’re going to look for a coach.

Corinne:

Whatever it is that you’re going to do in order to lose your weight, I think this will be helpful for you to be able to figure out how you learn, how you prefer to learn, work with the ways like your strengths instead of working against them and kind of figure out like best fit weight loss programs for you. As much as I would love all of you to work with me.

Corinne:

And I think that my program is amazing. I know a lot of you are not going to. The vast majority of people that don’t hear the words coming out of my mouth are going to, well, this is what usually happens, y’all go through it. You’re like, oh, Corinne, you’re so motivating. You’re so all these things.

Corinne:

I listen to your podcast, but I really can’t let go of my calorie counting. But if somebody would just tell me what to eat and work my out like I’m being put on the rack in medieval times, then I would lose weight. So you go cycle through all that, thinking that that’s going to change your life.

Corinne:

And then eventually y’all come back to me saying like, well, I really do think it’s how I think I really did just noticed I have an emotional eater. Even when Joe, my trainer, was telling me I should eat chicken and broccoli and made me do 4,000 burpees in the middle of the gym. I realized on Friday night, if I felt like I had a hard week and deserved to eat cheesecake for dinner, that’s what I did.

Corinne:

So what we want to do today is we want to talk about ways that we learn how to lose weight. And which ways do you prefer to learn? Which ways do you need to just kind of toss out sometimes? Or how do you find your resources for learning like this? So I do want to mention for all of my novice women who are listening, I take your education inside of the program seriously.

Corinne:

Which means that when you hear me talk about this stuff today, I want you to be, I’ll call out some of the resources that we have, but I want you to see that whether whatever kind of learner you are, we try to give you materials that will support that. So that if you prefer to read or you prefer to listen, or you prefer to experience, we have those things for you.

Corinne:

It also means that you have methods inside the membership that are not your preferred way to learn. And so for all of you, I always want to tell you, when you join No BS, you are going to get so much help. And you are going to get so many different ways to be able to learn how to lose weight, attack your weight loss, make your weight loss dreams come to fruition.

Corinne:

That doesn’t mean you have to use every single one of them. And so whether or not you’re going to work with me or not, I want you to listen to this podcast. And I want you to understand how you learn, how you synthesize materials. So that for some of you, what you’re going to find is you’re going to be like, I’m this kind of learner.

Corinne:

It’s no wonder that when I keep trying to do these diets that only give me tools and this specific method, this is why I’m struggling so much. So I always like to be able to give everyone who listens to my podcasts, especially my No BS women, just as much background as you possibly can get on how to work with weight loss.

Corinne:

So you’re not just struggling and you’re not just ramming your head against the wall. And for most of us, what happens is when we choose a diet in particular that is not well suited for the way we learn, our lifestyle, how we want to live our life and it doesn’t work. What we end up doing is we start thinking there’s something wrong with us.

Corinne:

We start thinking I’m a failure. I’m never going to be able to lose weight. And when in reality it had nothing to do with you. It had more to do with you just didn’t know that you needed different tools, you needed different methodologies, you needed things to be set in. It’s kind of like a lot of people love my cussing.

Corinne:

I mean, I get letters every day about people like, fuck yes Corinne, can you just say the F bomb more often? I would love you more for it. I get people who comment on my social life. This is why I listen to you. This is why I love you. And I get a lot of people who are like, I just want to throw holy water on you and run in the opposite direction when I hear you talk.

Corinne:

And for those people, I’m not good fit. So I want you all to understand that not every weight loss program is your perfect fit. Not every weight loss program is going to work for you. That doesn’t mean something’s wrong with you. It just means you’ve got to keep looking for what will really make sense, what will really resonate, what works with your strengths and be willing to do that.

Corinne:

All right, anything you want to add Kathy Hartman? You want to just at least say hello? You’re just sitting here, all of the silence in the background

Kathy:

Hello. Every time you open your mouth, it’s just like you’re just spewing wisdom.

Corinne:

That’s right.

Kathy:

Yes, absolutely. No, I totally agree. I know you’re going to get into these top three, but as I was thinking about this podcast, I was thinking about how I learn and where I fit into all this. And I just think about some of these programs that are out there and how very one dimensional they are and about how very, here’s a meal plan. Just go follow it. But there’s no-

Corinne:

Just throw one of them under the bus and tell us which ones.

Kathy:

Well, okay. So I was in Costco and I’m floating by all the pharmaceutical stuff. And there’s these big things for Nutrisystem, this big card. Nutrisystem, just buy this program, use this Costco membership or whatever. And I thought what they’re going to do for the people that bought this program, are they going to send a box of food to their doorstep and tell them, just eat this?

Corinne:

Pretty much.

Kathy:

Okay. But what does that do for you, right? If you’re a person who wants to understand the lies, you’re just going to pretty much be given a box of food.

Corinne:

Like for our curious learners, especially when you think about… I know for you as specifically, because we worked… Before Kathy became the podcast co-host, she just started out as someone who wanted to lose weight and came to my bootcamps and listened to me talk. And she was a client before she became a coach. And Kathy likes to know why things are the way they are.

Corinne:

She wants to understand. She’s very deep on the learning. She wants to really know what it’s about. So I don’t know, probably in your past, that was probably one of the reasons why it was hard for you to lose weight on keto. I mean, keto is a good example. It’s not a bad plan at all.

Corinne:

I don’t want people to sit here and think that Corinne thinks keto is bad, but when you’re just given a keto plan but you don’t understand what it’s doing, why you don’t always end up following the plan. When you don’t get those itches scratched, then what ends up happening is you’ve got a keto plan. You watch yourself still wanting carbs. You watch yourself breaking your plans. You don’t understand why.

Corinne:

And if you don’t know why this is what happens in your brain, oh, I’ll tell you why bitch, because you’re a failure. Because you suck and you’ll never lose weight. Our brain, if you can’t dig in and ask a coach or figure out like, oh, this is how my brain works and stuff, then you’re just left with what your brain does, which is make fun of you and make it a problem about you.

Kathy:

Exactly right. I mean, you’re exactly right. I really resonate with the why. I need to understand why what I’m doing is important, and that helps me connect to it. And I can’t believe I’m the only person in the world that’s like that.

Corinne:

Yeah, I think a lot of us… I mean, I was just kind of thinking about this topic before we even get into the three types of learners, because I’m also in the middle of right now, one of the things that we do inside the membership. Well, let’s do this. Let me just tell you the three types of learners and we’re going to jump to one of them.

Corinne:

So some of you are very visual, which means that you prefer to learn through a video. You really like watching something. So if you’re a No BS member, our course is delivered in video format for that reason. Our live classes, it’s us on video. Our replays, we have the video element because some people just do really well with watching something.

Corinne:

And so we’ll have like co-planning and co-journaling sessions where you can watch the coach walk people through worksheets and you’re really getting it. The other kind of learners are auditory learners who really prefer listening and hearing and speaking. So it’s kind of the same with video, you get to see me and you get to hear me.

Corinne:

With our auditory learners, what they do is they primarily stick to our private member podcasts where they can take it on to go. It’s like, because if I can hear it, then I’m really going to be able to synthesize it. I’m really going to be able to hear things and then be able to figure out how it fits in my life.

Corinne:

And then the last one is called the kinesthetic learner. These are the people who prefer that hands on approach. So, that means very often that means do it with me. So if you think about the things that we do inside the membership for all my members, we have the co-journaling and co-planning. Just like today, I did our monthly planning and assessment call.

Corinne:

I do one each month. I bring all the members in, whoever wants to come live and we have a meeting style. I take one person through an assessment while everybody else is doing it along. So you get to experience the learning and it combines for those who are visual, we’re doing visual. And for those who are auditory, they can listen.

Corinne:

So the reason why I say this is because one of the things that I’m working on right now is our camps. So we have a camp coming up in October, where for three days we’re going to have a transformation. We call it transformation weekend, becoming the hero of your own story. And during that weekend, people will have all three forms painted to them.

Corinne:

I’ll be on stage, I’ll be teaching. For all the people who attend virtually, they’ll be hearing it. They’ll be seeing it. And they have a workbook where we take them through exercises the entire weekend like we will be doing. When I say exercise, I don’t mean they’re going to get out of their chair. They’re going to be doing worksheets.

Corinne:

Nobody panic, we haven’t decided to… All the campers were like, what, we’re going to exercise? No, we’re going to exercise our brain all weekend long. But one of the things that I’m doing on day one is talking about our diet history. Because when you are trying to lose weight, you really need to understand why you have your goals.

Corinne:

Where did they come from? All of the moment you start doing the No BS, you start doing the four basics, every food rule you’ve ever had in your life, guess what it does. Comes screaming to the forefront.

Kathy:

Absolutely.

Corinne:

It’s like, what are you doing eating a piece of bread? Oh my God, you know you’ll gain five pounds. And every rule that you ever have comes to the forefront immediately. And so one of the things that we’re doing during that weekend is teaching here is why you think the things you do, here’s where it started in your past.

Corinne:

Because what we want to do is we want to make sense of all that. And we want to normalize all of that because what we were talking about earlier, when you’re losing weight, most of us do want to understand why. Most of us we find ourselves still eating even when we said we wouldn’t. We find ourselves saying we’re going to make a plan each day, and then we don’t.

Corinne:

And our brain naturally, it’s like, why can’t I do this? Why don’t I just do the things I do? And I think a key part of weight loss is understanding, here’s why you’re not doing it so that we can take a look at how to get you to doing it. It’s not because most of us will say, well, here’s why. I’m lazy, and I never have been able to lose weight before.

Corinne:

That’s not why you don’t make a plan. That’s not why you overeat. It’s deeper than that. That’s the name calling you do. That’s the worries coming up. But why it’s happening starts probably in our childhood, by what we were taught and what we interpreted. A lot of the why behind why we do it, doesn’t really have anything to do with our lack and our ability.

Corinne:

It has everything to do with the reason why I don’t make a daily 24 hour plan is because when I think about following it, all I am triggered is triggered my diet trauma. So even if I make a plan with the foods I want to eat on it, I still feel like every other time, it’s not going to be enough food. I won’t get to eat what I want.

Corinne:

Even if it’s full of what you want, your brain will still offer those things. So it’s important that when you’re losing weight, that you’re really thinking about, all right, if I’m going to lose weight for the last time, that not only means I’ve got to lose it the way I want to live it, but I’ve got to change fundamentally my relationship with myself, my relationship with my body and my relationship with my food.

Corinne:

And so the best way to do that is to really understand that your weight loss is not going to happen in pre-packaged meals. They’re not going to teach you why on Friday nights you’d rather have margaritas with your girlfriends than eat diet Salisbury steak in a little tin can.

Kathy:

I am not a Salisbury steak fan.

Corinne:

Are you not? Oh my gosh. I would just say-

Kathy:

I picture that hot meal you got at school, with the Salisbury steak with side of gravy

Corinne:

I used to love that. That was one of my favorite. I will say that it is very hard for Kathy and I to even go out to eat together because we do not eat the same. We are very opposite. Oh yeah, I love that. My grandmother, she used to call it minute stake.

Corinne:

I will swear to God, if my granny come back down from the heavens right now, I’d eat beyond enough. She would come back and she would make minute steak, which was literally, she would just go to the Kroger. She’d get whatever that meat is.

Kathy:

That cube steaks stuff.

Corinne:

Cube steak is so cheap. And then she would bring out the McCormick’s brown gravy pack. This is not even like it was homemade fucking gravy. It was bright that pack, she’d make that. And she’d make mashed potatoes and green peas from the can with butter. And you would’ve thought that I was eating with the queen of England.

Kathy:

See, this is your diet history though. Isn’t that fun? You’ve just told us some about your diet history. McCormick’s gravy, cube steaks and peas, and you thought you were in hog heaven.

Corinne:

It still feels like hog heaven. I remember one time trying to make that minute stake and it was a total fail. I was like, all right, that just reminds me, my mother’s coming to town. I need to ask maybe to see if she can make the minutes stake. Well, for all of the listeners who don’t know, my uncle he was my mother’s brother, he had autism.

Corinne:

He lived with either my grandparents or my mother all his life. Well, he died suddenly of a brain hemorrhage just a couple of weeks ago. And so I went to see my mom in Florida to kind of just spend some time with her and my brother. And while I was there, I was like beef ribs and chicken livers and the cast iron like grantees.

Corinne:

So it’s like ever since Edwin’s died, I’ve suddenly thought that we should take a walk down food memory lane. She was like, I haven’t cooked this much in a while.

Kathy:

Yeah, Edwin probably would have loved that. See?

Corinne:

Well, now he did get into the liver’s.

Kathy:

Get into the livers. Did he like the Salisbury Steak though? That’s what I need to know.

Corinne:

Oh, yeah, he did like that. That was a meal he could get down on. So going back to the learners, one of the things that’s important for all of you is…. So I want you to, as you’re listening, I want you to think about all right, which one of these methods do I notice? And just think about you in general.

Corinne:

If someone was going to teach me how to do something, what would I prefer? Would I like a video? Would I like somebody to stand there with me and show me? Or if you could just tell me how to do it, I’ll go off and figure it out. That’s how I kind of like to think about it. And then you just kind of pick the one that you prefer.

Corinne:

Now, if you’re like me… So Kathy and I will kind of tell you how we are. For me personally, I am a big video person. So now I definitely do all three of them, but if I have my way, I would much rather buy a course where I could just watch some videos in my own time, do the work. And if I have a question, I’ll go ask it.

Corinne:

So inside of No BS, a lot of people join and we tell them like, you’re one of three kinds of No BS women. You’re either what we call a bottom line bitch, who is very busy in life. So even my podcast listeners, y’all self-identify right now. You’re real busy in your life. You don’t have a lot of extra time to do things.

Corinne:

So you definitely have to pick your method of learning and figure out which weight loss program is going to offer this. So that I can get to the root of my problems, I can figure all this out. So for a lot of you, if you’re a video person like me, you’re also usually a bottom line bitch, which means I just want to watch a video.

Corinne:

I’m not going to go to live trainings. I am not going to be sitting in a Facebook group all the time kumbaya with all the peoples and things like that. And I’m social. But I made a list the other… I own 10 different courses, 10 really solid ones on all kinds of different things. I have been to maybe of all of them in the last two years, three live trainings.

Corinne:

I just don’t need them because I watch my videos and I can learn really well watching a video. Then if I need help, I know that there’s a Facebook group, just like our members do. They can watch the No BS weight loss course. And then when they graduate from that, they can watch a video a week or two if they want, of just our normal trainings where we’re just weight loss Q&A’s, weight, loss coaching, whatever we got going on.

Corinne:

You can watch any replay you want. If you’re just like, I only like to listen to Corinne talk about overeating. Then you could just call up every overeating call I’ve ever done. And every week you could watch one video on overeating every single week, probably for the rest of your life to be God’s honest because I talk about it all the time. If you wanted to.

Corinne:

Then what you do is like for me, I know that my secondary preferred method of learning that I do well out is just listening. I can listen to books. I can listen to podcasts that don’t have any kind of video, any kind of workbook that goes along with them. And very often I can listen and come up with ways, here’s one thing I learned from this book that I’m going to apply.

Corinne:

I can listen to a chapter and think, huh, that makes sense. So that means in my life, I could start doing this. I’m going to try this. Because if I hear it, I also can synthesize. My least favorite but one that I do is the kinesthetic. I am more about just either watching or listening. The kinesthetic is people that actually have to do.

Corinne:

So for them, it’s more about show me and do it with me. It needs to be very hands on. So for our No BS women for you, that means if it’s really about the practical application of it, you probably also tend to be someone who is going to make more time for your learning. So a lot of my bottom line bitches, they stick with video learning or they stick with audio learning.

Corinne:

And what I notice is the moderation mamas who have a little bit more time, not times, or our deep dive divas who are just like, I want to learn all three ways. Really I’m talking to our moderation moms. If you’re a deep dive diva, you’re going to do all the things. I don’t have to motivate you. I don’t have to talk to you.

Corinne:

I don’t have to do anything. You’re just going to do all the things. But our moderation mama’s, you’re kind of in the middle. And if you are also a kinesthetic learner, what that’s going to look like for you inside the program is you’re going to probably pick I’m either going to listen to something or I’m going to watch something, but you’re going to notice you need to do the worksheet also.

Corinne:

It’ll be really important for you to make sure that you’re doing the worksheets that we give you because that’s where the practical application part comes in for you. You might also find that if you are a kinesthetic learner, figuring out one live call a month, I mean, we offer two to three live calls for people to come to every month or every week, but picking one a month and saying, all right, I want to make sure that I’m at this particular call.

Corinne:

It speaks to me. This is one where they’re going to be doing a worksheet. This is the one where it’s going to be more guided where they’re going to be like, all right, everybody do this right now, everybody do this right now. Those are the kind of calls.

Corinne:

And those are the things that you’ll want to do inside the membership to really take that learning to the I’m hearing it plus applying it. If you are not a member, what this could mean for you is for some times with what we call our kinesthetic learners, take the podcast, walk with it. Do something while you’re listening.

Corinne:

Because just even the act of being physically active can kickstart that kinesthetic learning for you. So I just think it’s important that you really understand that there are these different ways. So when you’re picking out how am I going to lose my weight? You want to blend the kind of learner you are into all of it.

Corinne:

You want to be looking for programs that offer you these things, especially with our kinesthetic learners inside the membership. Because I think that part is, well, honestly, a lot of diets don’t include all three or any of them.

Corinne:

So if you’re doing a program where you are literally pulling something off the internet and they’re just going to give you a food plan or tell you a list of foods to eat a schedule, or you’re going to be ordering food from a company or something along those lines, you’re not really learning about how to lose your way.

Corinne:

You’re not learning about what obstacles you have and how do you overcome them. You’re not learning how to change your mindset along with it. That your mindset doesn’t just change because you lose weight. I feel like this is how we know. So for everyone who doesn’t believe me like, oh no, if I lost weight, this is what everybody says, no Corinne, you don’t understand, if I lost weight, I would be so thrilled.

Corinne:

You just don’t know. I’ve been overweight all my life and the moment I lose weight, I’m going to be so happy. I will not gain it back. Well, I said the same thing several times when I went from 250 to 175. I was just like, no, this is the time that I’ll lose weight, still being hard on myself. I’ll lose weight, still being afraid of food.

Corinne:

I will do all those things. Not really unlearned being afraid of food, not unlearned that there are good food, bad foods, not unlearned being an asshole to myself when I’m not perfect and not unlearned pulling my body apart all the way down the scale. No, when I get there, I’ll just be extremely thrilled.

Kathy:

Yeah, when I hit goal weight, I was just so thrilled. I could eat again that I gained all my weight back.

Corinne:

Yeah, there’s that. There’s also like for me, some diets I did, I wasn’t even starving myself. Some diets. I was able to lose 50 to 75 pounds and I wasn’t even doing something extreme or assholeish. But what I didn’t do while I was losing weight was, like I remember one time when I lost a bunch of weight, I did not go out the entire time.

Corinne:

I stayed home. I told myself that I just didn’t know how to eat out and I didn’t want to be tempted. So I was just going to get my weight off. Well, when I got a new body and I started wearing new clothes, what is the first thing I wanted to do? Start going out. I was like, fuck, I probably could find me a man who will take me out on a day.

Corinne:

In my mind, I was like, I’ve lost weight. Well, I had never practiced going out. So when I went out, all of a sudden I was around all this food that I had not practiced eating. And immediately, all that I would think is, well you’ve lost so much weight, you deserve it. You’ve worked so hard this week. You deserve it.

Corinne:

And next thing I knew I was so enjoying going out, and maybe wear new clothes, but I also was enjoying eating, but that was all I started doing again. Because I was like, oh, I’m really enjoying this. And then the scale started creeping up.

Corinne:

And then I started getting panicked and then I didn’t want to give up having a good time because then I started thinking, well, it’s so miserable to just stay home. I honestly wasn’t miserable when I stayed home, but I had no practice at going out either. So a lot of us what we do is we don’t pick plans that are going to teach us all the skills that we need in order to not only lose the weight, but to keep it off.

Corinne:

Most Weight Watchers, let me just say this, I ain’t been a Weight Watchers in forever, and I’m not about to donate any more money to Weight Watchers. Even to snoop their fucking program. Every time I think, you should just go see what they do now. I’m like, no. They’ve gotten so much money from me in the past. They should let me take a peak for free because I definitely built at least one corporate office for them.

Kathy:

Yeah, I hear you.

Corinne:

But one of the things that I remember about Weight Watchers and the weigh ins and stuff is that they never really taught me about what the scale normally does. I never went to a Weight Watcher weigh in where they said, oh, it’s normal for some weeks for you to not lose weight. So tell me about this week, what do you think led to the scale being what it is this way?

Corinne:

Because I remember doing Weight Watchers once where I would go away and he actually was going to the gym every day. I was eating my points. I was doing the traditional “I was being a good girl” and I hit a three week stent where nothing moved. And literally every time I went, they never encouraged me to keep doing what I was doing.

Corinne:

They immediately went to, you must not be doing it or you would be losing weight. It’s like your body, nobody teach… Most diets do not teach you the normal trend that a scale does like we do. They don’t teach you that your habits are more important than the result on the scale. Measure your habits. The scale will trend down over time.

Corinne:

But if you make the scale more important, you’ll forget to track your habits. You’ll start trying to do shortcuts and hacks and bullshit things. Or you’ll sweep things under the rug. And you’ll think you should be losing because there’ll be moments when you’re trying to lose weight where you’ll say no to things and you’ll think it’s so hard.

Corinne:

And you’ll forget about the times where you don’t say no to things. And you’ll think that those things shouldn’t matter because you don’t know weight like you used to. So it’s really important that you understand not only what kind of learner you are, but that if your weight loss program is not teaching you these things, you’re not losing the mental weight that has to come off with the physical weight. Both have to be happening. All right, what kind of learner are you?

Kathy:

So it’s interesting when you were going through these, I was thinking about myself as a child. I remember those standardized tests we used to have to take where there was a math portion of reading portion and all that. I always was always terrible on the reading comprehension. And so I always thought I must have some kind of deficiency, I’m not right because I can seriously, Corinne-

Corinne:

I’m shocked even as a child, you were like something must be wrong with Kathy.

Kathy:

Something is wrong with me, right? I can read books over and over and enjoy them every single time, because I don’t remember the ending. But what it really means is I’m just not a visual learner. I’m not somebody who reads and comprehends, but if you hand me a book and an audio book at the same time, I will remember every single concept.

Kathy:

So I’m a very auditory learner. I’m also a kinesthetic learner. How many times have you told me, Kathy, I need you to understand this, and explained the concept to me or a direction the business was going or something like that. And I have turned around and said, okay, so what I’m hearing you say is, blah, blah, blah.

Kathy:

That’s what an auditory learner does, is they repeat things back in their own language because they’re synthesizing information. And then I take that and I apply it and I create the process or I figure out the why, and I do the hands-on approach. That’s what works for me.

Kathy:

But if you just give me a book to read, I’m going to have to either read it out loud to myself, or I’m going to have to find an audio book or something to really synthesize the information.

Corinne:

That’s so interesting-

Kathy:

Visual learners… I’m sorry, what?

Corinne:

I said, that’s interesting because I’m literally the opposite. I can read a book and get a thousand ideas and understand concepts, but it wears out. I only do the kinesthetic part when I’m super stuck on something. For me now I journal and stuff, but for me when it comes to learning something, I even think about when I was losing weight.

Corinne:

A lot of my early weight loss was sitting around thinking about how I was going to think different. It was almost like the blend of the auditory. I was listening to myself do a lot of different things, but I would say kinesthetic is probably mildly. I can remember in high school hating when we would have to do labs where we’d have to dissect things or build.

Corinne:

I didn’t like classes where we had to… I was like, just talk and teach us the stuff. But when we actually had to apply it and work in a group and do all that, I was suddenly like, I hated that part. But go ahead.

Kathy:

I just think it’s interesting to know not only who you are as a learner, but if you’re teaching other people, how they learn. And I think about Chris, he must be a super visual learner because he does mind mapping, right?

Kathy:

I think about Ashley and Sierra when they come to camp with all the markers, all the post-it notes, right? That’s what they’re taking the kinesthetic part, the workbook and they’re creating a very visual experience for themselves.

Corinne:

It’s a lot like our digital divas inside of No BS. If y’all don’t know, if you are a No BS member, we have a unofficial group of they’re called the digital divas and they literally take all of our worksheets. They take all of our stuff and they digitize them and make them, they reorganize things and they share it with each other, but they’re making it very applicable to them.

Corinne:

And they’re rearranging and synthesizing the material. That is one of the things I would love to see our No BS members consider for themselves. I know I gave you a bajillion things, but that’s my best idea for you. If you take a look at something and you want to make it in a new way for you that makes sense, you get to do that.

Corinne:

One of the nice things about No BS is that I try to make the materials to where you have plenty of options, but that you can pull in the things that make sense for you, leave out… So here’s a good example. We have transcripts for the course because some people are like, Corinne, watching you as like pulling fingernails back for me.

Corinne:

But I could read your stuff all day and learn so much better by highlighting and writing in the notes and stuff like that. For those learners, that is why we give you transcripts, so that you have that option. And all you have to do is pull up the video. If you don’t want to listen to it, mark that bitch complete and read the transcript.

Kathy:

Right. And for me, I’m listening to it, whether you’re on video or not, but I’m looking at the transcript and I’m highlighting and I’m taking notes. So it’s knowing who you are and how you learn is only going to facilitate weight loss.

Kathy:

And it’s going to help you pick the best program for you. If you’re not a girl like me who needs to understand why keto works to make it something that applies to you, then you don’t have to worry about it. But for me, I need to know the why’s and I need to know the how’s and I need to be able to explain them and to do them in order for it to just really gel for me.

Corinne:

I just think it’s just good to know. I think one of the things that we don’t think about in weight loss, the whole diet industry in general doesn’t think about weight loss the way we think about it. We think about it from the mindset of we’re trying to change you as a person. Because most people that come to me with weight loss, they’re coming to me, it’s like, well, Corinne, here are the things that I really want.

Corinne:

Not only do I want to lose weight, but I’m so hard on myself. One of the reasons why I can’t lose weight is because I always put myself last. I have never learned how to care for myself. We teach those. That’s an important part of weight loss. A lot of people come to us because they say, well, I’ve lost weight before, but I didn’t like myself any better.

Corinne:

I enjoyed that I was thin, but the moment that I hit maintenance, my brain went from, you’ve got to lose weight. You’ve got to lose weight. You’ve got to lose weight to whatever you do, don’t gain it. Whatever you do, don’t gain it. I never lost weight and lost the part of me that was terrified I’d always be overweight.

Corinne:

And so I think that that’s one of the defining differences and a trend that I’m seeing in weight loss, where I think that successful weight loss companies in the future are going to be the ones that are addressing all of this. I think that as a group of women, as a society, we’re getting tired of being told that we’re not good enough for being overweight.

Corinne:

And here’s exactly what you should do in order to finally be good enough in society. Your weight loss doesn’t solve your self-concept. Just doesn’t. And nobody should be telling you what to do with your mouth. You want to have a weight loss program that works more on your whole person and that allows you to eat foods that you love, but in a way where you truly love them and yourself at the same time.

Corinne:

And that is one of the core tenants of No BS is teaching you not only is weight loss just a matter of losing some physical weight, but it’s really that mental transformation. And so you want to find programs that not only provide all of that, but also know enough about you as a learner and know enough about you as a person to be able to offer you all the different ways in which this will make sense for you.

Corinne:

So we wanted to bring you that today, just to kind of help you figure out as you listen to this podcast, it would be our honor, if you did lose weight with us, if you did become a No BS woman, you can always take, if you’re new to the podcast, you’re like, tell me more. You can go to nobsfreecourse.com, take our free course.

Corinne:

That course has video so that you can hear it and you can see me. It also has a workbook so that if you want to write and learn and read, you have that option along with it. And then once you finish the three videos, you have the podcast, which the podcast is auditory. But it is there for you.

Corinne:

And you can go back through the past episodes and you can find ones that you love and listen to them and stuff. Some of our episodes will say things like, write about this. If you’re a kinesthetic learner, anytime we talk about write about this or journal about this, you probably should do it because that’s going to help you reinforce more of the learning. Is there anything else you want to add Ms. Hartman?

Kathy:

No, I’m good. It’s good to talk to you again Corinne.

Corinne:

I know. So if y’all don’t know, we’re doing all kinds of… We want to also mix the podcast up to really hit the different types of learners. So you’ll notice there’s episodes with me and Kathy where we’re just shooting the shit like this talking about a concept. There’s going to be episodes where I’m coaching people live on Clubhouse.

Corinne:

Once a month, we do a live interaction with all of the people that follow us, because some people do better, like, oh, so when people are asking you questions and you’re walking them through, I learned so much better that way than just being taught information.

Corinne:

And then we’re also going to be just doing some interviews with book authors so that you get the opportunity to say like, oh, I would love to read that book. And then that way, we’re just trying to incorporate all these things into the podcast so that you’re always getting to experience the material in different ways.

Corinne:

And you’ll find which methods you love the most, and you can double down and listen to them. All right, y’all have a great week and we will talk to you soon. Thank you so much for listening today. Make sure you head on over to nobsfreecourse.com and sign up for my free weight loss training on what you need to know to start losing your weight right now.

Corinne:
